The Sheela Na Gig is depicted throughout Celtic lands, especially in Ireland, as a grotesque female figure with exaggerated genitalia. In ancient times she was associated with sovereignty. She was said to appear to men as a lustful old hag. Most men rejected her, but the one who accepted her advances became king, and she transformed into a beautiful woman. This beautiful Goddess then blessed the new king.

There is some speculation that statues of her, mostly dating to the 12th century, are moral lessons on the dangers of unbridled lust. In modern times, she is seen as representing the pleasures of physical love. All mosses are sacred to her, and cats, both wild and domestic, are her sacred animals.

Invoke the Sheela Na Gig regarding matters of love and sex. If she enters your life, be aware of your tendencies to indulge. If you have considered the consequences, then enjoy!
