Pwyll, pronounced “POHL,” is a Celtic God who became mortal. He cheated Arawn, the King of the Underworld known as Annwn, out of death, and thereafter they became friends. He also bore a son with Rhiannon, who was pledged to marry another. Because of his gift of clever thinking in a tough situation, he is sometimes considered the “God of Blarney;” i.e., a smooth talker. He is also the God of hidden strengths.
Horses are Pwyll’s sacred animal, and the reed tree (or the slippery elm in North America) is associated with him.
Invoke Pwyll when you need to talk your way out of a tight spot. If Pwyll appears to you, be prepared to discover strengths you didn’t know you possessed.
