The Mórrígan (pronounced “MOR-ih-guhn”) is the Phantom Queen of the British Isles, and a triple Goddess (along with Medb and Macha). The Mórrígan was the archetype for Morgan la Fey of the Arthurian legend. She is a psychopomp; which is to say that she conducts the souls of the dead, especially fallen warriors, to the Summerlands. It was said that if a warrior on the way to battle saw the Mórrígan washing his clothes in the river, he was about to die. She is a Goddess of battle, strife and fertility.

Plants sacred to the include blackthorn, hawthorn and any thorny shrub. In her psychopomp aspect, the Mórrígan appears as a raven.

Invoke the Mórrígan in shamanistic journeying, and in matters of grief. If she appears to you, exercise caution in your dealings.
