The Green Man is the physical embodiment of Nature. He is sometimes conflated with Cernunnos, the Horned God, but there is little evidence that the Green Man was recognized in the British Isles prior to the eleventh century. The Green Man is depicted as a face made of leaves (usually oak leaves), and this motif was a common decoration on churches and ale houses. It is possible that the Green Man was a later import from India.
Since the Green Man is the physical embodiment of all of Nature, all plants and animals are sacred to him. The Green Man has all of the characteristics of Cernunnos, but also has a protector aspect.
Invoke the Green Man when the seeds you have planted need protection in order to mature and flower. If the Green Man appears to you, consider any weaknesses you may have in your life, and how you might strengthen those areas.
