Represents: Illusion, the power of enlightenment, shamanic journeys

Dragonflies are usually seen near bodies of water. They are creatures of water, earth and sky. This ability to dwell in multiple domains at once gives them shamanic powers. People of the Dragonfly will feel the presence of all of these elements in their lives. They will be grounded and centered like the earth, yet beings of light and free spirits, like the air. These colorful insects remind us of our own colorful existence. Dragonfly calls us to show true our colors.

Although some species of Dragonfly can live up to seven years or so, most are short-lived. Their short life spans remind us to live for today and not to spend too much time fretting about the past or worrying about the future. Water’s gift to the Dragonfly is the ability to be deep and nurturing.

If Dragonfly has entered your life, she is calling you to acknowledge and accept your own transformation. She is the power of metamorphosis, change and transition.

If this is your totem you will be emotional and passionate during your early years (the influence of water) and more balanced with greater mental clarity and control in as you mature (the influence of air). All of these changes will take place in a down-to-earth, grounded approach (the influence of earth).

Dragonfly is the essence of the winds of change, the messages of wisdom and enlightenment; and of communication from the elemental world. Dragonfly medicine beckons you to seek out your habits that need changing.

Dragonflies mate while flying. People of the Dragonfly tend to have high-flying romances and their romantic partners are impressed by the depth and breadth of their caring and compassion. They are true romantics, because they see into their lover’s souls just as easily as they see into many worlds at once.

Dragonflies have shamanic powers, they tend to be matter-of-fact about it. To them, being able to walk between the worlds is no more unusual than being born with blue eyes or black hair. They tend to avoid being egotistical about their gifts.

Call on Dragonfly to guide you through the mists of illusion to the pathway of transformation. The number 2 is important to Dragonfly, so think in terms of two year periods when you begin a change.
