Although Ceridwen, pronounced “KER-rid-wen,” encompasses all three aspects of the Mother, Maiden and Crone Triple Goddess, she is most often recognized in her Crone aspect. As the Crone, her cauldron of wisdom, inspiration, rebirth and transformation is said to be the source of all Celtic peoples, who call themselves “cauldron born.” The pink sow is her sacred animal, and she is associated with grains, vervain, and hens.

Ceridwen stirring her cauldron is the source of the Halloween archetype of the hag stirring a witch’s brew in a cauldron. As a Goddess of inspiration and wisdom, she is also the wise old teacher. The cauldron is the symbol of feminine wisdom; the wisdom of hearth and home.

Invoke Ceridwen when in need of divine wisdom and inspiration. If Ceridwen has come to you, you are being challenged to learn and grow. Heed her challenge and you will gain wisdom.
