Brighid, pronounced “Bride,” is the triple Goddess of poets, healers and smiths. She is also the Goddess of poetic inspiration and childbirth, and is the Matron Goddess of all Druids. Her name means “Exalted One,” or “The High Goddess,” and she is the daughter of the Dagda, the wife of Bres, and mother of Ruadan. Brighid is one of the Gods and Goddesses who were transformed into saints by the Catholic Church. As Saint Brighid, she is the matron saint of farming. All livestock animals are sacred to Brighid, and her sacred plants include grains and white flowers.

Brighid was and is worshiped throughout the Gaelic lands. She is often depicted as wearing white as a symbol of her purity and goodness. She is where we get our word “bride,” and why brides wear white dresses as a symbol of purity.

Invoke Brighid when seeking poetic inspiration or divine healing powers. Newborn children may also be blessed in her name. If Brighid enters your life, she brings with her purification, innocence, nurturing and goodness.
